About the Course

The co-occurrence of childhood trauma and substance abuse problems in general populations has been explored in past research. The authors of this study designed a qualitative research study of men in Iceland with histories of both trauma and drug abuse. Several interrelationships between the experience of trauma and drug abuse among men are explored in the five major themes generated from individual interviews with men with substance abuse histories. The authors also provide guidance towards improvement of trauma-informed therapy with men with substance abuse histories.

This course is based on the reading-based online, “This Is the Result of Something Else”: Experiences of Men That Abused Drugs and Had Experienced Childhood Trauma created by Margret Torshamar Georgsdottier, et al. in 2021.
