About the Course

This bulletin explores how agencies can support children and youth who have been exploited as well as those who may have risk factors for future exploitation. Legal protections are described as well as various programs operated by the Federal Government.

The Child Welfare Information Gateway is the congressionally mandated and funded information service of the United States Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, United States Department of Health and Human Services. The agency promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.

Counselors, marriage and family therapists,nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, psychologists and social workers, as well as state and local child health and welfare professionals

Learning Objectives

After taking this activity, you should be able to:

  1. 1 Describe the scope and major risk factors associated with the trafficking of children and youth.
  2. 2 Identify and discuss federal and state agency responses to address the problem of child and adolescent trafficking in the United States.
  3. 3 Discuss those factors contributing to the trafficking of children and youth and describe proactive programs and training utilized to mitigate those contributing factors.
