About the Course

This scoping review examines the cultural adaptations of substance use disorder (SUD) treatments for Latinx communities. It identifies key justifications for adaptation, processes used to tailor interventions, specific cultural modifications applied, and the efficacy of these adapted treatments. The review highlights the importance of cultural adaptation in improving engagement and treatment outcomes, particularly through models such as the Ecological Validity Framework. Findings suggest that while culturally adapted treatments show promise, more rigorous efficacy and effectiveness trials are needed to refine best practices.

This course is based on the reading online article, A Scoping Review of Cultural Adaptations of Substance Use Disorder Treatments Across Latinx Communities created by Kamilla L. Venner, Ph.D et al in 2022.
